Natural light vs Off Camera Flash CHALLENGE ft. Jessica Kobeissi – Viral Trends

Natural light vs Off Camera Flash CHALLENGE ft. Jessica Kobeissi

In this video, Jessica and I photograph the same model using different techniques. She uses the natural light available in the studio while I use an off camera flash as my main light. I’m a fan of both styles and think all the images look great!

  1. What do we think ? Let me think …Jessica won all rounds because Manny you are a great portrait photographer and Jessica is an amazing fashion photographer! and yes strobes kill the joy sometimes!!!

  2. I usually prefer to shoot with natural light but I have to admit that the flash pictures here look far better than the others. Maybe it is because of the post processing but they look much richer in color and with deeper shadows. Also, I think that the photos exposed for the outside look really impresive.

  3. Makes a world of difference and meanwhile we like to say "whatever looks for you", too many photographers use that as an excuse to not learn the tools. Nothing worse than that.

I would encourage every starting photographers like me to just learn and try everything before deciding which way to go.

  4. You both had amazing shots. I like shooting natural light, but most of the time I love to shoot with flash. I love the way you can make your shots look real dramatic with flash if you want. It just really gives your subject the beautiful light on the face and you don't usually have to touch it in post…. Great video!!!!

  5. Very interesting video, nice idea, and well executed. Regarding the pictures, I believe that are very different results. The differences are not only because of the light source but also the photographer style. Despite some of them are too warm for me, I prefer the results of the pictures with flash. Some of the pictures with natural light are great too, but I don't like one of the last one with wide angle that accentuate the foot of the model. Anyway, great video as always!

  6. I can never understand this debate, surely you take whatever is needed at the time.
    I just dont get it?
I Take my Flash for flash shots and if see a natural light shot I take that…
Not too much natural light in the dark!
I just cannot see the divide it makes no sense.
You get great shot with both….
