Improve Your Photography With A SUCCESSFUL Photography Project

Get Your Photography Project Planner: http://shp.photo/planner

At the end of every video I tell you to “Get out there and take some damn photos!” because that is the quickest route to improving your photography!

And one of the easiest ways to make sure you get out there and regularly take some damn photos is with a photography project.

365 photo challenges are popular at the beginning of a new year for that reason, but 365 challenges are dangerous. If you can follow through, it is a GREAT way to regularly shoot and in doing so it’s guaranteed to improve your photography

But if poorly executed, a 365 photo challenge can actually ruin photography and discourage you from shooting.

I think everyone should undertake a photography project, but not necessarily a 365 photography project. In fact, in this video I’m going to explain exactly how to set up a successful photography project to help you improve your photography!

  1. Best wishes on the new house, Spyros. My projects are very dependent on the weather. I like to practice macro and product photography in the cold winter and then take to the great outdoors for wildlife. I especially enjoy birds in flight. Take some damn photos? Do you mean, like the Hoover Dam? When I was in Nevada last summer that was on my agenda. 😉

  2. In the Netherlands we have a lot of proverbs, I started a project of making them visible (preferably in a funny way) I do this for 3 reasons. It helps me think on how to make these proverbs into a picture and not just how to light and expose the image. secondly I want to use it to improve my studio and photoeditting skills (but it is a minor goal). Thirdly I use it to teach our daughter about photography.

  3. My project started in August of 2017 and will continue – as long as my subject lets me. My grandson was born – I took maternity photos of his mom and have taken regular "posed" photos once a month since. I plan to monthly for his first year, then once per season as long as he agrees to it. I figure I can bribe him at least into his early teen years.

  4. I found a couple of boxes of my late father's kodachrome slides just before Xmas. My project will be to digitize and restore them. I am not sure I will get them all done in a year though lol. I started last Sunday and only managed to digitize and restore 4 images. One of them took me nearly 5 hours to restore!

  5. Photography is my main hobby. I was challenged to do a 7 day photo challenge. One photo a day, no people, no explanation and in black and white. Because I was a bit unwell at the time I just took pictures in my kitchen and lounge. It was the first time I had taken any B&W pictures. Since then I have set my self fortnightly challenges. All the projects are in black and wide and are 7 pictures. I am trying to stretch the ideas. Projects have been windows and lines. In lines I went to my local library and took a picture of a wall of books (lines between). The current project is bridges and fly overs. I have a 14mm lens and have had very limited success. So my next project is to use it and get comfortable with it. I have lots of other ongoing projects on the go. These have no time frame. My journey from home to work (nearly finished). I have done a two river projects from the sea to the source and back down the other side.

  6. I have gone through a Project 365 4 different times now. This past year, was my last. I ended up just snapping whatever to have taken a photo. I wasn't proud of what I was sharing. So for 2018, I decided to just share daily. I took several photos over a course of a couple of days that have gotten me through the past few days of sharing. Every few days, I'll spend some time photographing images to share for the next few days! So far it is working better. I am proud of what I am sharing. #the2018collection

  7. I live in a very simple unattractive area in texas which has no beautiful area or cool architecture or anything cool to shoot. What should I do if I want to do a 52 or 365 project? I don't ljke to waste my time shooting ugly scenes

  8. Will start a Photoproject of adding/enhancing my stock fotos on Landscapes/Nature/Wildlife…..Minimum i will commit is every alternate weekend!! Anything shorter than that is tight!!
