Landscape Photography | It’s the same but different!

I’m not one for Mediterranean holidays, or hot places generally for that matter! But when your friend lives in one, I like to make the effort to go. It’s a shame for me isn’t it!!! So, Cyprus it is…and for the second time this year! I do find it very difficult shooting in these places, but not only because of the heat. Often the landscape is baked free of all vegetation and the sky is devoid of beautiful clouds. So, I had to find a challenge; and one that could take advantage of this climate and this is it. Four images shot form the same location, facing the same direction, using the same settings, but at different times of day! The results were quite surprising to say the least! Hope you enjoy!

  1. Fascinating video Simon. Such a clear way of showing the differences in the light at different times. You hear so much about golden hour and blue hour etc, nice to see a practical demonstration. I love the pre dawn shot like a lot of other people but also love the dusk shot as well, it seems very restful and soothing. Thanks again for the video and look forward to one from home.

  2. Great video. I prefer the pre dawn / dawn shots. There is something special about the first light of the day that just makes the colours seem so much richer.

  3. Another very well put together video. Cracking idea too. The quality of your videos deserves to be seen by a much bigger audience. I really don’t understand how YT works, I really don’t. Well done Simon. Need to meet up for a coffee.

  4. A fascinating video, thank you very much indeed as I’m sure that knowledge will be useful and I’m saving the video to a playlist. I want to go out and do the same experiment with some films now, all I need to do it get to sunny climes.

  5. Great exercise.  I've thought of doing something similar several times, but never took the time to do it.  It was quite interesting to see the variations in the colors.  Thanks for sharing.

  6. I live in a hot place (27 degrees today) with blue sky and no clouds. So I find your idea quite interesting. At the same time, I almost wish I could live in the UK, to capture those misty mornings images…

  7. What a great experiment. People often talk about shooting in the different light and which is ‘best’ but to actually see them side by side makes it real. My personal favourite from these has to be the first pre dawn shot. I suppose it would depend on the subject matter as to which suits most but I am surprised because if I had to say which would be best, I would have said the sunrise or sunset because that is what I have been told to think so often. This really is a great idea for a video.🙏

  8. A very nice idea, Simon and lovely images. Mind you, I could have done without the mention of blue skies and sunny weather, it is rather cold up here in the north of Scotland! All the best.
