  1. Actually, hitting certain types of glass with blunt force (a sledge hammer for example) doesn't do anything at all. The reason that panel broke was probably because the cup was porcelain, which breaks into microscopic points and can easily break glass.

    Seriously, try to break safety glass with a hammer and then throw a shard of porcelain at it. If it really is safety glass, you'll be very surprised.
