In this video, I will show some of the mistakes to avoid as a photographer, and how to do it right.

We all make these photography mistakes in the beginning, and I wish I had known how to avoid them when I started my photography.

Photography mistakes to avoid:
1. Shooting during day time instead of sunset or sunrise
2. Not using an ND filter when shooting the ocean
3. Not using a tripod for night photography
4. Putting too much elements in your photo
5. Shooting JPG instead of Raw
6. Not using Lightroom or it’s presets

Happy shooting!

  1. My conclusions after this video:
    – Lets hate people. Make photo of people only when they are lonely.
    – I MUST have ND filter, there is no such thing as photo blending.
    – You can't do photo in regular light, unless i use lightroom after.
    – I should use crap filters, that are classicly oversaturated. For FREE (of course after SIGN UP)

  2. Hi,
Thank you very much for all your videos, I had learned a lot with your videos.

with regards to ND filters, what filters do you recommend? Do I need Gradiant ND filters, or the circular variable filters will do fine? just to obtain the smooth look for the water?

  3. Thanks, Serge. I've used and expanded on your points for presentation to my "Basic Camera Techniques" workshop. Another big mistake young shooters make is not recognizing the problems of high contrast scenes. And they also allow their photos to be imported into the default photo program on their computers, where they are never to be found again. Keep up the good work!

  4. Good Day Serge

curious, for the photo that you gave as example, the one that had the harp player, then you adjusted to not show him, that you used "lightroom magic" to do the more night setting with the lighting. do you have a tutorial or lesson on that? i'd love to know how do to that kind of effect/edit

  6. Correction: You can get the same effect as an ND filter by doing image stacking in Photoshop. Take a bunch of pictures that would add up to a 2 second exposure and then bring them into Photoshop as layers. Convert those layers into a single Smart Object and set it's blend mode to Mean. Boom. Long exposure. Works in a pinch if you don't have an ND filter handy.

  7. You lost a fan here… Tried to get the presets… Signed up for your website… THAT isnt enough… Then I have to like and share your Facebook and YouTube…? Some serious scamming going on right there. No thank you. If you want all that just for some presets, then say so. Don't scam people. Not to mention, I did all that and STILL the presets were not available. So it was a complete trick and scam. Not cool.
